Our first location on Main Street in Green Bay

We’ve been fortunate enough to call Northeast Wisconsin home for the last 75 years. When we first opened our doors on Green Bay’s Main Street, we started with the slogan “A mile from downtown, ’tis true, but a mile from high prices, too!” Although we’ve since transitioned to “Your Style for Less,” our original slogan remains part of the memories we’ve created here in the Northeast Wisconsin community. And, 75 years later, we still hold these words close, as they remain the foundation for everything we do.

It all starts with the fact that we still call Green Bay home. It’s where all of our internal operations are located—from our corporate headquarters and warehouse and distribution center, to our customer service call center and service technician department. It’s just one of the ways we believe being 100% local allows us to provide a better customer experience by having the flexibility to tailor our services to your needs.

Our present-day store in Fond du Lac at 50 N. Main Street

Our original owners – Henry Wagnitz, Paul Greene, Carl Greene and Henry Rupp – founded the company on one core principle; we take care of our customers. While styles and trends have changed over the years, one thing has stayed the same: we are continuously looking for ways to deliver on this principle.

We’ve grown from one store in Green Bay to a total of six WG&R Furniture locations and three standalone WG&R Sleep Shop locations across Northeast Wisconsin, along with August Haven locations in Green Bay and Appleton. We also have our WG&R Mattress Factory in Two Rivers, where our quality WG&R Factory Direct mattresses are handcrafted every day.

Celebrating our 75th anniversary

Our present-day flagship store in Appleton at the corner of I-41 & Wisconsin Avenue

As we enter our 75th year in business, we’re still committed to our core principle first established in 1946. In order to better serve the needs of today’s customers, we’ve made it easier and more convenient to get your new furniture or mattress sooner with options for immediate pickup and delivery on all in-stock items.

We are so grateful for all of our customers over the last 75 years. As three generations of local, family-owned pride, we place special importance on having integrity in all that we do and building lifelong relationships. We strongly believe that as long as we continue to do business like we have since 1946, we’ll be around for the next 75 years, too.

Even the best sleepers can have trouble falling asleep at times. The downsides of not continually getting enough quality sleep are many, and include increased risks for heart disease, depression, and diabetes, just to name a few. While the long sunny days of summer are most welcome, they can also throw a wrench in your family’s sleep routine.

Whether you want to avoid getting completely off track or are looking to ditch your poor sleep habits once and for all, here are some healthy sleep tips for a better night’s sleep.

The all-new Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-Adapt Medium mattress has advanced comfort layers to help you get your best night’s sleep

Tips for a Better Night’s Sleep

Wind Down Before Bedtime – Experts suggest turning off technology at least 30-60 minutes before bedtime. That means avoiding phones, tablets, computers, and TVs. Instead, find another, more relaxing activity like reading a book, stretching, or writing in a journal while listening to some relaxing music.

It’s All About the Light – Getting quality sleep is all about managing your circadian rhythms. Although it’s more difficult in the summer, try to avoid bright light late in the evening, and adjust your sleep setting or morning routine to expose yourself to sunlight as soon as possible.

Stick to a Routine – This is especially helpful if you have little ones who don’t like going to bed. Sticking to a routine – such as bathtime, brushing teeth, storytime, and bedtime – can get your child in a bedtime-ready mindset and can even make them sleepy in the process. For adults, tuning out from technology an hour prior, reading a book, and doing some light stretching every night before bed can have the same effect.

Check Your Mattress – Your poor sleep may have something to do with your mattress. Take a moment to think about it – you sleep on your mattress on average 7-9 hours per night, every night. After several years of this, your mattress naturally starts to break down due to natural wear and tear. And since it’s hidden beneath several layers of bedding, you’re probably not even thinking about it. If you’re constantly waking up with aches, pains, or a general feeling of not being refreshed, consider testing out a new mattress. Our WG&R Sleep Shops have knowledgeable sleep specialists who can help you find the right mattress. Whether it’s SealyTempur-Pedic, Nectar, or our very own line of WG&R Factory Direct mattresses, you can be sure we have the right mattress to fit your sleep needs. (Read our ultimate mattress buying guide here.)

Check The Temperature Sleeping too hot is one guaranteed way to ruin the quality of your sleep. If you tend to overheat during the night, invest in a mattress with cooling features and use bedding with breathable, moisture-wicking materials. Another tip? Turn down the thermostat. Even if you like a warmer temperature during the day, it’s a good idea to turn down the temperature by bedtime to allow your body to sleep comfortably.

Consider an Adjustable Base – For the same reasons you may need a new mattress, you may also benefit from a lifestyle base. These technologically advanced power bases allow for customized comfort with adjustable positions that can help you sleep or relax even easier.

As always, they brought insight into the upcoming trends in furniture that are soon to be everywhere. Want to be ahead of the curve? VELVET

If you’re in the market for statement furniture, look no further than velvet. Deliciously tactile and rich in tone, velvet continues to be a design favorite. With an ability to add a luxe look and feel at a variety of price points, velvet looks best on curved silhouettes and is a surprisingly durable material with regular care.

PATTERN

It’s time to embrace bold patterns in your living room look. From chairs, to ottomans, to accent pillows – even to the base fabric on your sofa – pattern is everywhere. From bold colors to neutral palettes, it’s time to forego predictable solids and add some visual interest with an electrifying mix of patterns.

COLORFUL ACCENTS

If you want a pop of color without a huge commitment, a colorful accent piece can really do the trick. We found that casegoods really embraced a refreshing spectrum of color that can instantly make any room feel updated and on-trend.

POWER RECLINING LEATHER

Want to know the secret behind a truly effortless and enjoyable relaxation experience? Power reclining furniture upholstered in luxurious leather. With technologically advanced comfort and convenience features – like light-up cup holders that can heat or cool your beverage, power-adjustable headrests and lumbar support, and built-in USB ports – relaxation has become a true art-form.

CHEVRON

The chevron trend has long been a favorite in the upholstery and fabric accents world, but is now making its way into the world of casegoods. Found on headboards, dressers, and cabinets alike, chevron is one timeless pattern that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
